Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes reveals he models his stunning passing game on ex-international he calls ‘the professor’

A FORMER international team-mate, who Bruno Fernandes calls “the professor”, taught him how to pass with the outside of his foot, the Manchester United ace has revealed.

The Red Devils reached the Wembley final, where they will play Newcastle later this month, with an aggregate score of 5-0 over Nottingham Forest.

Bruno Fernandes assisted Fred’s goal against Nottingham Forest with an outside of the boot pass

But at Old Trafford on Wednesday, it took a late flurry to get the goals flowing and secure a 2-0 win over the newly promoted side .

Anthony Martial opened the scoring in the 73rd minute, and a second by Fred followed shortly after.

But it was Fernandes‘ outside of the boot pass that got the plaudits for United’s second goal of the evening.

When asked after the game where he developed his piece of skill, Fernandes revealed he learned it from Portuguese icon Ricardo Quaresma, who he calls “the professor”.

A trickster in his own right, Quaresma won 80 caps for his country between 2003 and 2018.

He even had a brief spell at Chelsea back in 2009 on loan.

But his career did overlap with Fernandes’, with the pair playing together for Portugal between 2017 and 2018.

Fernandes told Sky Sports: “I learned from Quaresma so I had a great professor in Portugal so you have to learn with the players. You have to learn their tricks and use them.

“As Luke said, one in 20 is not bad! I’m really happy for the performance of the team and for the goals we had created.

“We had some chances and could have scored more but I think Nottingham [Forest] defended really well.

“It was tough to get into their defence but we did it.

“We won and we are into the final so we are very happy with that.”

United have not won a trophy since 2017 when Jose Mourinho was in charge.

But Fernandes has called on his team-mates not to lose focus on the Premier League, and their hunt for a top-four spot.

He said: “Obviously it’s really good. For me it’s been three years in the cup, we reached one final and didn’t win that one unfortunately.

“But now we have another chance. But before that are a lot of games coming, we have to be prepared for that.”
